Home insurance

Though not mandatory, unless you’re a tenant (Quillot Act of 1982), home insurance is strongly recommended. In case of damage, whether you are the victim or the person responsible, it guarantees compensation

Risks covered

Generally, the standard policy includes coverage in case of:

  • fire
  • explosion
  • water damage
  • theft
  • and miscellaneous damage (glass breakage, natural disaster, etc.)

Depending on your needs, you can take out extended coverage.
Home insurance also usually includes third party liability, legal protection and sometimes assistance.

Before signing, check the terms of your policy. Some policies include deductibles

  • if the amount of the damage is less than the deductible, you won’t be indemnified.
  • if the deductible amount is € 100 and the damage is estimated to be € 300, the insurance company will compensate 300-100=€200
