Termites are insects that are 5 to 7 millimetres long. They feed on cellulose, which is abundantly available in homes (wood, plaster, fabric, paper, etc.).
The major problem is that a termite infestation is difficult to see: they don’t make any noise and leave practically no trace of sawdust. More than ¾ of France is concerned.
Decree no. 2000-613 of 3 July 2000 requires a report on parasites be attached to the deed of sale.
This termites survey must be performed by a certified technician. It costs about € 150 and is valid for 6 months. It is mandatory in communal and departmental zones under a prefectorial order of protection.
If you reside outside of a protection zone and you come under termite attack, you must declare it at the Mayor's office.
