Protecting pipes in winter

Some periods can be very cold and it’s always better to protect your pipes in winter, regardless of whether they are inside your home or out.

Choose an insulating material. Glass wool, polyethylene foam, and polystyrene provide very effective and economical protection. Wind them around your pipes using duct tape or iron wire.

Also, don't forget to cut the water supply. Close the stop valve and bleed the system.
If you can’t do this, protect the outdoor valve with a cloth or plastic bags. If it gets really cold, allow a fine line of water run. This will ensure a constant flow of water, which will prevent your pipes from cracking under the ice.
