Conseils pour déménager

If you decide to hire Professional movers, shop around. Get at least 3 estimates in writing, they’re free and will give you a realistic idea of prices.

Prefer companies affiliated with the Chambre Syndicale du Déménagement (French removals federation). This will guarantee better protection in case of dispute. You can choose either a national or a local company. Both offer quality services. National companies are a good idea if you’re moving out of the department since they have offices and warehouses all over the country.

You will need to choose one of the following 3 formulas:

  • The all-inclusive package: the company takes care of everything. This is of course the most expensive formula.
  • The standard formula: the company packs fragile items and you take care of everything else (clothes, books, etc.). Good solution. This formula makes it possible to insure your valuable items in case of breakage.
  • The economical formula: the company only takes care of handling. Although not as expensive, this formula offers no protection of your goods in case of breakage (only items packed by the company are covered).

Be wary of estimates given over the phone. The mover must come to your home to evaluate cubic content and any problems specific to your home (accessibility, possibility of parking the truck, width of stairs, etc.).
The estimate must always include the following:

  • date of the estimate
  • name, address, and registration of the company (SIREN, SIRET, RCS, etc.)
  • date of the move
  • pick-up and delivery address, distance travelled
  • volume of the load, formula selected
  • the price to pay, with and without taxes (HT and TTC)
  • deposit paid

Always read the general terms and conditions carefully before signing.

On moving day, be present at departure and on arrival.
If you observe any losses or breakage, mention them on the end of work declaration and send a registered letter to the company within 3 days.
The mover is bound by a strict liability to perform and is therefore considered responsible in case of any loss or breakage. If he/she/it proves the damage cannot be attributed to him/her/it, you will not be indemnified unless you took out additional insurance prior to the move.
